OUR HISTORY

It all started in 1988 when David Whitehead (S'64) and Terry Lowry (S'64) made a decisive move. After talking with the faculty and alumni of Lincoln High, the decision was made to form an alumni organization.

Up to that point, Lincoln had no organized body to help alumni in their quest for meaningful reunions, aiding excelling students to further their education and/or assist the administration and faculty with programs and equipment for the betterment of the school.

Hours and hours of planning proved fruitful. Alumni of all ages answered the call to help organize the Association. Accounts had to be set up, by-laws instituted, committees formed, and hundreds of other small details worked out. Stationery and envelopes were printed, telephones installed in the room provided by the school, and most important of all, a computer was acquired and a database was programmed and installed. Jim Speed (S'64), Marty Oster (S'64) and Judith Banks (S'63) started the long, tedious process of adding over 15,000 names, addresses, telephone numbers, married names, and class affiliation.

Playing major roles in the development of the Association were David Whitehead and the Executive Board consisting of Terry Lowry (S'64), Jackie (Heiser) Jackson (S'60), Marty Oster (S'64), Jeff Stahl (S'56), Ron Davis (S'52), Marion Morrison (S'56), Judith Banks (S'63), Linda (Hylen) Danzig (S'62), Terry Allen (S'64), Jim Speed (S'64), Harvey Christensen (Retired Faculty), Linda (Johnson) Danzig, and Richard Gershenson (S'56). Those of us who followed thank them for their dedication and commitment to fulfilling a program of such importance.

In 1990 the first edition of this Alumni Log was printed and distributed and has been annually ever since. Though formerly going to all alums in our database, the Log, because of the tremendous cost of printing and mailing, will now be sent only to Alumni Association members.

Though the years have passed, the enthusiasm of David Whitehead did not wane. David served as President of the Board from its inception through the school year S'98, bringing a fledgling committee through the hard years and molding it into a well organized unit. Bill Mason (S'44) has assumed the gavel as President of the Board of Directors in September 1998."

As of the Fall 2005 term, the Board members are: Bill Mason (President) S44, Toni (Veille) Alstad (Vice-President) F58, Is-e (Nadel) Hogan (Treasurer) S58, David Whitehead (Past President) S64, Alice (Clayton) Lahl (Secretary) F45, Gary Bader F58, Tom Jenkin S47, Ron Davis S52, Shawn Yee S03, Jonathan Woo S03, Bill Mustanich S65, Florence O'Malley (Retired Faculty), Judy (Banks) Simmons S63, and Gary Simmons S58. Board support include: Cynthia (Harriman) Benevenga S47, Don DeMello S45, Hal Fox S44, and June (Kren) Neuhaus F43.

All interested alums are invited to attend the meetings of the Board of Directors on the first Wednesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the Principal's conference room next to his office. Join your alumni association and help keep Lincoln the school of choice in San Francisco.
