As is almost always the case, the weather in Chico, California was warm and beautiful as over 30 Mustangs met at the gala decorated Holiday Inn for the first of what we hope will become an annual event.
Driving the two-hundred miles to attend the event were five members of the Alumni Association, not including your editor who lives in the area, Bill Mason S'44, President of the ALHSAA and his wife Janice (Pibernig) Mason S'47; Is-e (Nadel) Hogan S'58; Toni (Veille) Alstad, F'58; and Judith Banks S'63.
Space does not permit us to list all of the attendees although each and every one of them deserves recognition for being part of such a delightful crowd.
Present were Mustangs from three decades. It isn't surprising that alums immediately found classmates and began reminiscing but it is always surprising the ease with which different age groups mingle so naturally. Smiles and laughter were everywhere. Common ground was found, for there were no strangers here, only Mustangs. Family.
The afternoon progresssed with no-host cocktails and a delightful buffet lunch. Platters and platters of salads, condiments, meats, cheeses and breads lined the tables adjacent to the mirrored walls.
Capping off a great afternoon was the showing of the new Abraham Lincoln High School video. Twelve minutes of ooohing and aaaahing finished with the singing of the school hymn. It's marvelous that everybody remembered the words and the tune.
We would like to extend our thanks to the employees of Holiday Inn, Chico, for their extra effort, professionalism, and friendly handling of all the arrangements, decorations, and buffet.
While we are on the subject, we are looking for alums in other California counties to hold their own "Roundup". It can be as formal or informal as you like. It can be a brunch, a luncheon, dinner or a potluck at someones' house. Remember the old saying, "If it is to be, it is up to me." Your Alumni Association will help in any way possible, including supplying you with a list of alums in your area. Call us. Write us. Email us. Just do it. ALHS Alumni Association, 2162-24th Ave, San Francisco, CA. 94116. (415) 664-4903. LincAlum@aol.com. You can count on some of your Alumni Association Executive Board members to attend.
