LINCOLN TODAY

A showcase for the San Francisco Unified School District. Abraham Lincoln continues as a fully accredited comprehensive high school serving a culturally diverse student population. The Lincoln family is proud that the recent graduates are doing well in universities and colleges locally and across the United States.

Some 2500 students walked up these steps and through the doors this year. There were 123 certificated, 21 classified, and 21 paraprofessional personnel serving these students. The ethnic composition during 2005-06 was as follows: African-American, 5.9%; American Indian, 0.5%; Chinese, 57.6%; Filipino, 3.9%; Japanese, 0.7%; Korean, 1.3%; Latino, 10.1%; ONW, 10.6%, OW, 7.2%, and DS, 2.2%.

A team of hardworking administrators worked with a dedicated faculty in school environment supports the aims of improved academic performance and enhanced self-image for all students. The comprehensive curriculum includes advanced placement, honor and academic courses for college preparation as well as life-preparation in such disciplines as visual and performing arts, practical arts, business, and the latest computer technology across the curriculum.

Of special note are the successful Academy of Finance Program, our state of the art library, and our Preparatory Academy Magnet School program offering Juniors and Seniors a choice of instructional focus in one of three Academies: Science and Math, Humanities, or Business/Finance/Vocational Education. Special classes are provided for students identified as Special Education or English Language Learner. A strong co-curricular program meets a wide range of student interests. There are over 45 clubs and a broad interscholastic sports program of 28 teams. Lincoln provides its students with a challenging and enriching high school experience and a safe environment.

The school's appearance is striking these days because it has undergone remodeling during the past year. Included in the project were new windows, lockers, fire alarm system, auditorium, both gymnasiums' floors and bleachers, the provision of handicap accessibility and upgrades to some science labs and the infrastructure. Planned improvements that have been funded are additional science labs and classroom furniture.

The strength of the school's instructional program is in the involvement of its teachers in activities contributing to student success as validated by the 2000 WASC visitation when the school received a six year term of accreditation.
