TIME CAPSULE
PROJECT COMPLETED

Pictured from left Ron Pang, Principal of Abraham Lincoln High School; Bill (Rocky) Mason S44, President of your Alumni Association; and Tom Jenkin S47, who put so much time and effort into completion of this project.

Once in a while, with or without intention to do so, a project will go dormant out of sheer frustration. The inability to put a plan into action because of logistical shortcomings or wherewithal, or some unforeseen cog, has been the proverbial thorn to some Board members. But, a project cannot stay dormant so long as there is a per sistant member of the group who will not let it rest. And so it was with the Time Capsule project instituted way back in the twentieth century and a tenacious Ernie Boegershausen F44.

Your Alumni Association Executive Board tries hard to avoid allowing any project to become dormant, but the 80 pound slab of granite laying in the Principalšs office was just more than anybody wanted to cope with. The project was placed on a back burner waiting for a location to be chosen, a cement housing to be constructed and fortified against dampness. Once this was completed, the time capsule had to be put in place, the granite slab slid over it and sealed against the weather.

This may seem like a simple project to most but, au contraire, a project of this magnitude could only be handled by a professional with credentials. Step to the plate Tom Jenkin S47. Tom not only has the credentials, a noted retired architect, but he has the wherewithal to follow this project to completion.

During the Executive Board meeting on September 4, 2002, Tom led us to and unveiled the fruits of his labor. Located by the driveway entrance to the boys gymnasium, the cement housing yawned, awaiting its timeless cargo. After a brief ceremony the weighty slab was lowered into place, sealing for another 38 years that which went before.

The Board gave a mutual sigh of relief and took the walk back through the school to the meeting room adjacent to the Principal's Office where, once again, it continued with the business of helping the school face fiscal responsibility.

A special thanks to Ron Pang, Principal of Abraham Lincoln High School, and Bill (Rocky) Mason S44, President of your Alumni Association.

The Association is especially grateful to Tom Jenkin S47, who has also worked very hard on other Alumni Association projects, such as the display cases across from the alumni office. He spent uncounted hours for, and was the catalyst in the formation of, the very important War Memorial Plaza. Right now he is working to institute the Sports Hall of Fame at the entrance to the boys gymnasium.
