FIRST ROUND-UP

A big success
The sunshine bounced brilliantly off the velvety green tundra, tickling the gently rippling water in the strategically placed hazard and reflecting off the slanted unblemished windows of Blakes Of Boundary Oaks Golf Course in Walnut Creek, CA.

The sensational view of the gently rolling hills that makes play at the golf course a very pleasant experience was only exceeded by the congeniality of the almost 60 alums and guests who attended the First Round-Up. This being the first in a series of regional get-togethers planned for alums all over these United States.

A huge pat on the back for Toni (Veille) Alstad F'58 and Dorothy (Brandlein) Dorsett S'45 for putting together a unique reunion of alums from the East Bay area, and a greatly deserved thank you to the owner and employees of Blakes, as their professionalism only added to the success of the event. We heartily recommend Blakes for your events.

Present were the alums from almost all the classes from F'42 through F'73, with very few classes not represented. Also present was Marjorie Maher, Math teacher and recent recipient of the Abraham Lincoln Distinguished Faculty Award. Miss Maher attends almost every Alumni Association event and it is a pleasure to see the delight in her face as well as the faces of her former students.      Highlighting the afternoon event was the unveiling of the first video of the seven million dollar modernized Abraham Lincoln High School. Filmed and narrated by our own President of the Alumni Association, Bill (Rocky) Mason S'44, the professional quality video displayed many phases of education. It also contained excerpts from the 1999 AAA Championship Basketball Game between Lincoln and Lowell that brought waves of applause from the enthusiastic, awestruck alums in attendance. Incidentally, Lincoln won that game by trouncing Lowell 37-36.

The event, originally planned as a two hour informal luncheon, stretched to over four hours as alums reminisced and finally, hesitantly and regretfully, left for home.

One very important message was learned from this event - that Alums of all ages can come together and be just as comfortable as with a class reunion. After all, we have one thing in common, we are all Mustangs, forever.
