Sacramento Roundup

On a cold, foggy Saturday in Sacramento, 60 alumni from the 40’s to the 70’s managed to find the Embassy Suites and attend the first “Roundup” luncheon from the greater Sacramento area.

This fifth in a series of Roundups proved to be as exciting and informative as the first four. Our unofficial motto is “Keeping the Family Together” and that’s what these Roundups are doing. Mustangs from all decades meet other Mustangs and develop friendships based on common backgrounds.

Many alumni, captured by that Mustang spirit, traveled 100 miles or more to attend the event. They were: Bill Mason S44, President of the Alumni Association and his wife, Janice (Pibernig) Mason S47, Toni (Veille) Alstad F58, Vice President of the Alumni Association, Is-e (Nadel) Hogan S58, Treasurer of the Alumni Association, Tom Jenkin S47 and Judy (Banks) Simmons S63, members of the Board of Directors and Gary Simmons S58, editor of the Log. Others traveling that distance, or more, were: Diane (DeLauff) Eason F59, Wayne Wiswell S60, Jim Wyatt (Retired Faculty) and Peggy Baikie S54.

Peggy Baikie S54, Jim Wyatt former teacher and Toni (Veille) Alstad F58, enjoying the camaraderie.

The luncheon festivities started at 11:30 a.m. as alumni arrived and donned their pre-made name badges. (For those who ‘scrapbook’ the name badges make for a great page with pictures).

Finding classmates from your era seemed to be the sport of the day and almost all were not disappointed.

Mustangs from the pioneer classes were awarded a special round of applause during the introductions. Bill Nichols F42, Ernest Kohlmeister S43 and Bill Mason S44 affably talked about their experiences during those first formative years of Lincoln.

Also in attendance were three members of the ‘70’s classes, pictured below.

Venessa (Williams) Dickerson S77, Deborah (Sullivan)  Wright S77, and Kim (Sullivan) Dozier S76 had a great time.

You read in a previous Log of the Colt/Niner connection. We now have a Packer connection as Deborah (Sullivan) Wright’s son Joseph Hayes (not an alum) will be playing on the offensive line of the Green Bay Packers this coming year. Meanwhile it’ll be the NFL Europe. We wish him good health and success.

By 2:30 p.m. almost all participants had gone sight-seeing or home. But 3 1/2 hours of fun had lightened the spirits of all the Mustangs present and brought them just a little bit closer to their roots.

Your Alumni Association takes great pride in our efforts to help the school and ‘keep the family together.’ Planning for future Roundups is already in the works. Seattle seems to be a great venue and Orange County also. Future Roundups we are working to promote include Colorado, Utah, Hawaii and Arizona.

Your Alumni Association officers and members of the Board try to attend all these events (at our own expense), and we hope that when your area is selected you will show that Mustang spirit and also attend.
