Roy Diederichsen started teaching at Lincoln at the ripe old age of 22 after graduating from San Jose State College. While at Lincoln, Roy distinguished himself by working with “at risk” students, some of whom had been kicked out of other schools and were a little on the wild side. He channeled their overabundance of energy into constructive endeavors that would be helpful in developing discipline and their character. At the urging of Principal Clyde White, Roy developed the first well supervised, safe boxing program at Lincoln that provided to be the catalyst needed to aid these students. For the three years Roy taught at Lincoln , he earned the respect and loyalty of hundreds of students that thrived under his tutelage. Roy went on to coach and help develop the City College of San Francisco boxing program. In recognition of his many accomplishments, Roy was inducted into the Abraham Lincoln High School Wall of Fame in May 2001. |
