2005 Crab Feed
By Gary Simmons

As usual, the 6th annual Crab Feast was a continuation of previous Crab Feasts inasmuch as the JROTC conducted tours of the school, the entertainment in the auditorium was lively and the crab was good.

But looking further into the event we discover that the JROTC not only were sharply uniformed but really friendly and thorough. The entertainment was a collaboration of the String Orchestra, the Varsity Gold Show Choir and the term play cast.

A lot, a lot of students and teachers put themselves out to create a great performance for Lincoln alumni and friends. All who attended send their thanks and a “well done” to all these groups.

Add to that the Lincs who served the dinner and catered to our every whim and you would think that half the student body participated. This, of course, was not really the case.

Everybody who attended this annual event was simply enthralled with the efficiency, friendliness and downright willingness to work of the Lincs. They seemed to be everywhere. Running to get more drink, pasta, salad, or anything else an attendee would want. Napkin? You got it, right now! Salt? You got it! More crab? You got it! The alumni present rewarded them by digging deep in their pockets, in a gratuitous way, for what the students need most for their projects.

The cooperation between administration, teachers, students, and the alumni spearheaded by Alumni president Bill Mason S44, the hard-working committee chairpersons, Gary Bader F58 and Toni (Veille) Alstad F58, treasurer, Is-e (Nadel) Hogan S58,  Secretary Alice (Clayton) Lahl S45, Principal Ron Pang, JROTC Commander, Colonel Robert Powell, and especially the Lincoln High chef Rosie Romero, was truly astounding. No other school could equal this type of production.

Also present at the Crab Feast were authors June (Williams) Kenny S48 (Escaping the Fate of the Little Rascals), and Lori Ungaretti S70 (San Francisco's Sunset District) who donated copies of their respective books for the fantastic raffle held at the conclusion of the dinner. Amid the yelps and squeals of excitment, one by one winners of the drawing marched to the microphone, manned by Gary Bader F58, to pick up their prizes.

Close to a thousand dollars in donated articles were raffled to excited and grateful alumni, friends and families.

We think the spirit of the Crab Feast can be summed up in just one of the emails we received pertaining to the event. This one about said it all:
“Hi Bill, Gary, David, Isabel, Board of Directors, and ALL Lincoln Alumni planners. Saturday Night was MAGICAL. It was my very first ALUMNI Event, and my neighbor said, “You paid $35 for a Crab Dinner?” I told her, “I would pay $5,000 for that night.” I had a great time. Thanx so much for planning such a memorable evening. I loved every minute....
Pat Crocker Class of 69”

Many, many hours were spent on the telephone and traveling to locations to acquire donated items for this marvelous raffle. This behind the scenes action is just one of the unselfish displays of dedication by your Alumni Association volunteer committee members.

The donees were:
Scott Alstad, who donated the pasta and sauce. (Scott is not an alumnus but his mother is).
