In Memoriam

Standing alone in the middle of Memorial Court located adjacent to the auditorium is our War Memorial. Dedicated to honor former students of Abraham Lincoln High School who have given their lives in the service of our country. This memorial is a permanent monument to our friends, classmates, and fellow servicemen who, in the performance of their duties, exhibited the character and spirit of the Mustang, the symbol of the institution that helped mold that patriotic spirit.

The information to bring this memorial up-to-date has been painstakingly researched by a committee of your Alumni Association Executive Board members and rededicated on Monday, May 28, 2001 at 2 pm in Abraham Lincoln High School's Memorial Plaza.

Their findings found names never before shown on the monument. Included are those from World War II, the Korean War, the Viet Nam War, the United Nations Desert Storm action, and other conflicts.

All names shown on the Memorial have been confirmed from casualty lists obtained from the National Bureau of Archives and Veterans Cemeteries.

As you might have noticed that the committee could not locate pictures for the following veterans: Frank Balduc, Mario Balistreri, Earl Roger Lerch, William Rosenthal and Kieth Silva. Your alumni committee would appreciate pictures or any information pertaining to these or other alums that would aid us in the successful completion of this endeavor. Please contact us now by e-mailing any, and all, information related to this project directly to the Memorial Committee by clicking here.

In conjunction with the remodeling and updating of the memorial, it is planned to prepare a brief biographical summary of these heroes; i.e., student body activities; sports participation; colleges attended and a description of military service; names of close friends and family; etc.

THE AMERICAN BATTLE MONUMENTS COMMISSION maintains a  listing of those interred at The American Miliary Cemeteries overseas and  those missing in action from World War I, World War II. Korea, Vietnam  and the Gulf War. In addition it has a listing of war veterans buried at  Corozal American cemeteries and those who lost their lives during the  Korean War. The ABMC supports the only two military Level One trauma centers for veterans. Both are in San Antonio, TX. San Antonio has the largest military retiree population in the world and because these are the two largest military medical centers, they staff the most dedicated of all military personnel.
